Version 3 was just pushed. This version features pretty URLs and some back end code enhancements so things are running more smoothly and the code is more pleasant to work on.
The result: my attention will probably turn towards development of end user features and usability for awhile.
There are some changes I would like to see made in the next release.
Those who do not vote should not receive credit for votes their entry receives.
This would only apply to future games. This gives people a reason to actually vote instead of skipping rounds. Along with this would be a more clear indication of whether someone was a winner.
The number of votes currently granted should not be visible.
I had argued this wasn't a big deal with rikitikilorax in the comments a few weeks ago. Surprisingly not brought up in the discussion at the time is an obvious argument for hiding vote counts during voting that is nearly irrefutable if you value fairness. If you are tied for first and have not voted yet, how would you vote if you knew you were tied and how would you vote if you didn't? If you're of strong moral fiber, perhaps you would admit that the entry tied with you is actually a quality entry that deserves your vote. But if your interest is winning, then you would obviously vote for any other entry, ensuring the vote doesn't go to your toughest competitor.
Other things remain on tap.
At Molly's request, and to serve as a creepy metaphor for this site, here's a giraffe giving birth. Enjoy the plop in the first 20 seconds; it's a doozy.
I disagree with this:
ReplyDeleteThose who do not vote should not receive credit for votes their entry receives.
If I forget to vote, that's just going to make me mad and then cause me to abandon the game.
